Ukraine expels Russian naval attache

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry declared the Naval Attache of the Russian Embassy in Ukraine persona non grata. The ministry’s press office said in a statement on April 30.

"The Naval Attache of the Russian Embassy in Ukraine has been declared persona non grata in connection with his activities incompatible with diplomatic status in accordance with the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961," the official statement reads.

As a result of a successful counter-intelligence operation, on April 30 the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) detained the Russian diplomat at the scene of his clandestine actions.

In the near future, he must leave the territory of Ukraine.
