Economic sanctions needed before Ukrainian election - US Senator Coats

U.S. Senator and former U.S. Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany Dan Coats believes that the U.S. should impose new economic sanctions against Russia before the Ukrainian presidential election on May 25.
He has said about this on air of MSNBC, the Senator's press service informs .
“I think holding off until the 25th before imposing new sanctions or more effective sanctions is a mistake,” Coats has said.
According to him, the current sanctions have not enough influence on Russia. “Going after the Russian economy is ultimately what is going to be a game-changer,” he noted.
Coats also said that Putin is directly involved in the release of captured OSCE inspectors in Sloviansk. Putin obviously is the master of the situation there, according to Coats. Putin holds all the cards: he sees the weakness of the West, the weakness of leadership here in the U.S., inability to speak with one voice with Europe and takes advantage of this, Coats added.
