Interim President of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov has told about the Anti-terrorist operation in the eastern regions of the country during his meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, as well as about the situation in the south-east of Ukraine and the preparations for presidential elections.
"We are ready to speak with those people in the East, who are ready to share their opinions, but no discussion can be held with those, who use the arms against the people of Ukraine", Turchynov is quoted by his press service.
At the moment, the constitutional amendments are considered, envisaging the devolution of power to the regions.
According to Turchynov, the ATO is held exclusively against the armed terrorists and saboteurs, who are taking hostages, kill and terrorize the inhabitants of the East. "Slow progress" of the ATO is explained by the desire to ensure the safety of citizens and prevent civilian casualties, Turchynov said.
When speaking about the elections, the interim president supposes the problems may happen only in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, where "the elections are blocked by the occupation troops of Russian Armed Forces". He has mentioned the additional polls will be organized at the border with Crimea for "the Ukrainian citizens to have a possibility to vote".
Merkel has assured Turchynov that Germany supports Ukraine and is ready to help in different ways to settle the problems.
